A study by the insurance provider has revealed Britons spend a collective Ł670
million a year rectifying DIY disasters, with homeowners in the Midlands apparently
particularly culpable.

However, it seems that the majority of Britons are unperturbed by their previous
lack of success, as Ł153 billion worth of renovations are scheduled to take place in
the near future.

As a result, Vicky Emmott, Halifax Home Insurance\'s senior manager of underwriting,
is urging Britons to employ qualified personnel to carry out projects of a
complicated nature to prevent homes resembling a war zone.

\"Whilst well planned and executed home improvements can add significant value to a
home, getting it wrong can be a disaster, Ms Emmott said.

\"We\'d advise anyone planning any major improvements to their home to employ
qualified and reputable tradesmen, rather than going it alone.\"

Quick sale property company National Homebuyers purchases properties quickly and for
cash. Director Julian King says: \"If a home has had disastrous improvements or the
homeowner has found that their investment simply hasn\'t paid off, we would be happy
to help their situation.

\"We purchase many, many properties every week and we do this by making a formal cash
offer on every property we survey, regardless of its condition or any DIY
\'dis-improvements\'. People worried that they have lost thousands from attempting
improvements should look at our website
